The Appeal of a Fiberglass Pool Installation

There are many reasons to love a Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pool!  Durability, stunning designs, features, and lower maintenance costs.  But many homeowners find how much quicker and easier a fiberglass install can be to be the most appealing aspect.  Here are some reasons why a fiberglass pool installation is quicker and easier than vinyl or Gunite pools.

Pre-Manufactured Design: Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pools are designed and built at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in Timmonsville, South Carolina.  Each pool is then shipped to one of our six distribution yards across the U.S. and delivered as a single piece to your backyard. This pre-manufactured design eliminates the need for on-site construction, significantly reducing installation time.

Simplified Excavation: Since the fiberglass pool is pre-shaped and pre-sized, the excavation process is straightforward. The hole can be dug quickly and accurately to match the pool’s dimensions, minimizing the need for adjustments.

Rapid Placement: Once the excavation is complete, the Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pool is delivered and placed into the hole in one piece and leveled, often within a matter of one day. This process contrasts with the multi-step construction required for Gunite pools, which can take several months due to the need for curing time and on-site customization. Vinyl liner pools also require a more involved installation process, including the construction of a frame and careful fitting of the liner.

Streamlined Plumbing and Backfilling: The plumbing and backfilling processes can occur simultaneously with filling the pool with water, ensuring the pool remains level. This concurrent work speeds up the overall installation process.

Minimal Weather Delays: The installation of a fiberglass pool is generally quicker and less impacted by weather conditions because it involves placing a prefabricated shell into the prepared site. This process is not dependent on weather-sensitive stages such as curing or drying, which are necessary for Gunite pools.  Gunite pools require multiple steps, including pouring, curing, and plastering, which can be significantly delayed by inclement weather since these materials need time to set and harden properly. In contrast, fiberglass pools can be installed even in less-than-ideal weather conditions because the main structure is already complete and just needs to be placed and secured in the excavation site.

Reduced Complexity: The simplicity of the one-piece design means fewer variables and complications during installation. This leads to fewer unexpected issues and delays, ensuring a smoother and faster process overall.

Fiberglass Pool Installation Process

Now that you know a little about why the fiberglass pool installation process is quicker and easier, let’s discuss the actual steps an authorized Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pools installer will take to get the fiberglass pool in your backyard.

Step 1:  Fiberglass Pool Excavation

For accuracy, prior to installation a pre-construction meeting is set-up by the builder, and that includes laying out the design of the pool in your backyard. A dig sheet is used for the excavation that is specific to your pool’s design and shape. The hole is dug meticulously, backfilled, and compacted to prevent unwanted settling.

Step 2: Fiberglass Pool Delivery

Your fiberglass pool arrives at your home on a truck-trailer. Professionals will offload your pool from the trailer and lower it into place in the excavated hole after a compacted bed of gravel is prepared. Guide stakes, string lines, and laser levels will ensure accurate placement and leveling during the in-ground pool installation.

Step 3: Fiberglass Pool Leveling

After placing the pool on the gravel bed, the floor of the pool, the swimming pool installer will inspect it to ensure that there are no voids or humps that were formed during the placement. Water is then added to the pool simultaneously along with backfill. Continuous checking of the levelness of the pool is critical.

Step 4: Fiberglass Pool Plumbing

While water and backfill is being done, the installer will connect the plumbing from the pool to the equipment pad location.

Step 5: Fiberglass Pool Deck Preparation

After water and back-fill have been completed, gravel is prepped for the surrounding pool deck. Typical decking includes concrete or pavers. Final leveling and shape adjustments and bonding are done at this stage.

Step 6: Fiberglass Pool Coping

At this point the concrete decking, pavers or combination of the two are installed around the pool. The installer also will integrate accessories and features such as handrails, ladders, water sheers and deck jets.

Exploring the Benefits of Fiberglass Pool Ownership

Imagine stepping into your backyard and being greeted by the shimmering blue waters of a beautiful Barrier Reef fiberglass pool. If you're considering fiberglass pool ownership, you might be pondering the benefits of different pool types. Among the options, fiberglass pools stand out for several compelling reasons.

Durability and Longevity

One of the most significant advantages of fiberglass pool ownership is their durability. And with fiberglass pools versus concrete or vinyl pools, you have an additional advantage of greater flexibility, due to the malleability of the material. This flexibility allows the pool to withstand ground movements and temperature fluctuations without cracking. Additionally, fiberglass pools are more resistant to algae growth, making them easier to maintain

Sturdiness

Barrier Reef fiberglass pools are designed to be strong and resilient. The manufacturing process involves layering fiberglass and resin, creating a robust yet flexible shell that can resist temperature fluctuations and the resulting ground pressure, enduring the test of time. This sturdiness translates to fewer repairs and replacements, saving homeowners both time and money in the long run.

Smooth Surface

The smooth, non-abrasive surface of fiberglass pools is also a notable benefit. An advantage of fiberglass versus concrete is that while concrete pools can be rough and abrasive, fiberglass pools offer a sleek, smooth finish. The gelcoat surface is gentle on the skin, reducing the risk of scrapes and injuries, making it a safer option, especially for families with children.  But even with the inherent smoothness of fiberglass pool surfaces, various parts of the pool itself (entry steps, built-in pool seating, and walking platforms, for instance) can be specifically textured to provide a safer, less slippery surface for daily interaction.

Quick Installation

When it comes to pool installation, time is always a factor worth considering. Barrier Reef fiberglass pools are pre-manufactured and delivered in one piece, allowing for a significantly quicker pool installation process compared to concrete pools that need to be built on-site. In many cases, the installation of a fiberglass pool can be completed within a couple of weeks, minimizing disruption to your property and allowing you to enjoy your new pool sooner.

Prefabrication

The prefabricated nature of our fiberglass pools means that what you see is what you get. You can choose from a variety of pre-designed shapes and sizes, ensuring that the pool you select fits perfectly into your backyard space. This prefabrication also contributes to the overall efficiency of the pool installation process.

Lower Lifetime Cost

While the initial cost of a fiberglass pool may be comparable to other types of pools, the long-term savings are substantial. Fiberglass pools typically require less maintenance and fewer chemicals, resulting in lower lifetime costs.

Less Frequent Repairs

The durability of fiberglass pools means that repairs are also less frequent compared to other pool materials. Chipping and cracking tend to be minimal, even on a long term basis. This results in significant cost savings over the life of the pool, as you won't need to spend as much on upkeep and maintenance.

Comfort and Safety

Safety and comfort are paramount when it comes to pool ownership, and Barrier Reef fiberglass pools excel in both areas.

Built-In Features

Many of our fiberglass pools come equipped with built-in steps, seats, and safety ledges. These features add convenience and enhance safety, making it easier for swimmers to enter and exit the pool safely. There is also an assortment of features available (Integrated Spas, Lounging Ledges, Waterfalls, Specialized Coping, Pool Lighting, Waterline Tile Options), to provide a whole new level of usefulness to your final pool installation.

Eco-Friendly

In today's environmentally conscious world, the eco-friendliness of products is a significant consideration. Fiberglass pools are a good choice in this regard for several reasons:

  • Fewer Chemicals
The reduced need for chemicals in fiberglass pools means fewer harmful substances are released into the environment. This is not only better for the planet but also creates a healthier swimming environment for you and your family.  The heightened ability of fiberglass pools to function with saltwater systems is an additional bonus.

    Sustainability
The long lifespan and low maintenance requirements of fiberglass pools contribute to their overall sustainability. Investing in a fiberglass pool means fewer resources are needed for repairs and replacements, making it a more environmentally friendly option over time.

Warranty and Peace of Mind

When making a significant investment like a pool, having a comprehensive warranty provides peace of mind. Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pools LLC. warrants its fiberglass pool shell to be structurally sound for the life of the pool, and in addition the finish coat or gelcoat is warranted against blistering for 15 years. This long-term coverage ensures that you can enjoy your pool without worrying about potential issues down the line.

Choosing the right pool for your home is a significant decision, and a Barrier Reef fiberglass pool is an excellent choice for any potential pool buyers. All things considered, fiberglass pools provide a combination of practicality, durability, and aesthetic appeal that’s hard to beat.

By considering a fiberglass pool, you're not just investing in a pool—you're investing in years of enjoyment, relaxation, and memories with family and friends. Whether lounging by the pool or taking a refreshing dip to beat the heat, a Barrier Reef fiberglass pool is a beautiful and rewarding addition to your home.
