We caught up with Cody Malone, Owner of Platinum Pools & Spas of South Carolina, to talk about the business, passion for pools, and what sets them apart!

Q: Tell us about your business and how it got started.

Cody:  Platinum Pools was started in 2017 with a dream to be upstate South Carolina’s best fiberglass family-owned pool company!

Q: What sets you apart from others in the industry?

Cody:  We are very hands on! I am the owner AND on the job site every day from start to finish. I want to make sure my customers are satisfied.  Customer service is our #1 priority.

Q: What inspired you to get into the pool industry?

Cody:  I’ve always been fascinated with swimming pools and how they work! It’s also very rewarding being able to make a customer’s dream come to life.

Q: How long have you been a Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pool Dealer?

Cody:  We have been with Barrier Reef for 3 years now and have enjoyed every second of it!  It’s the only brand of fiberglass pool we sell, so we know it very well.

Q: What are some of the most popular Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pool models you sell, and why?

Cody: The Bondi (U.S. Patent #10,472,839) & Coral Sea Lounger! The sloped entry deck on the Bondi is a great addition and the Coral Sea Lounger is a good alternative for someone who likes the lagoon feel but also likes the sun deck option.

Q: What is your approach to helping customers find their perfect pool?

Cody:  Like I said, I am the guy.  I meet with customers AND do the work.  I offer that one-on-one guidance.  The nice thing about me is I have lots of experience from past projects to make sure a homeowner makes the best choice for them.

Q: What’s one common concern customers have about fiberglass pools, and how do you address it?

Cody:  It’s always “Don’t fiberglass pools pop out of the ground?”  I make sure to explain what steps we we take to make that impossible. By the way, the key is keeping the pool full of water!

Q: What advice would you give to someone considering a fiberglass pool for the first time?

Cody:  We always suggest talking to a previous customer or someone you may know that has a fiberglass pool. Fiberglass pools are the only choice for someone wanting low maintenance, and with Barrier Reef, the peace of mind knowing you have a warranty for life!

Q: Do you have a favorite pool project you've worked on?

Cody:  All of them are our favorite! My crew & I truly enjoy what we do and love the product we get to work with every day!

Q: What do you enjoy most about being a Barrier Reef Dealer?

Cody:  We admire Tony Walton so much (the founder and heart of Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pools).  He is extremely passionate about his pools, and we love supporting a family-owned business like ours! Having great people to work with really makes us love what we do just that much more!

Q: If you could design your dream backyard with any Barrier Reef pool, which model would you choose and why?

Cody:  Tough question because we love them all, but our pick would be the Billabong Cove with an added oval spa. We love the lagoon feel and having a hot-tub is a great addition!

Is there anything else you’d like potential pool owners to know about Platinum Pools and Spas of South Carolina?

Cody:  Just that we promise exceptional customer care, not only during install, but for years after. This is not only our job but our passion.  We would love to make your backyard your favorite place!

We caught up with Eric Nelson, Vice President of Nelson Pools, to talk about the business, passion for pools, and what sets them apart!

1. How did Nelson Pools get started?

Eric: Nelson Pools is more than just a business—it’s a family tradition. My father, Mike Nelson, started the company in 1980, and we’ve been committed to installing top-quality pools ever since. I guess you could say I was born into the business—I started working with my dad when I was just 12 years old. Now, we have two locations—one in Summerdale, AL, and one in Pensacola, FL.

2. What inspired you to get into the pool industry?

Eric: Honestly, it was always in my blood. Growing up around pools, I naturally developed a passion for the industry. It’s incredibly rewarding to help homeowners create their own backyard escapes.

3. How long have you been a Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pools dealer?

Eric: We’ve been a proud Barrier Reef dealer since 2019, providing the highest quality fiberglass pools to homes across our service areas.

4. What makes Nelson Pools stand out from the competition?

6. What’s the biggest concern customers have about fiberglass pools?

Eric: A lot of customers worry about durability. But once they see samples of Barrier Reef’s fiberglass shells and learn about the lifetime limited structural warranty, those concerns disappear.

7. What advice would you give to someone considering a fiberglass pool?

Eric: Fiberglass is a great choice because it’s durable and incredibly easy to maintain compared to other types of pools. Plus, installation is much faster than concrete, meaning you’ll be swimming sooner!

8. How does Nelson Pools give back to the community?

Eric: We believe in giving back. We’re proud sponsors of the American Heart Association and have donated CPR Training Kits to local schools. In Alabama, CPR training is required for graduation, but many schools lacked the equipment for hands-on training. With the help of the American Heart Association, we supplied these kits, so students are properly trained to save lives.

We also support “Blossoms of Hope,” the primary fundraiser for the Christian Service Center in Gulf Shores, AL, which provides food and emergency financial assistance to families in need.

9. What do you love most about being a Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pool authorized dealer?

Eric: The partnership and sense of family. Barrier Reef truly cares about their dealers and supports us every step of the way. We love being part of the Barrier Reef family!
