Like many smart homeowners, Tom had lots of questions – and we love that! It gave us the opportunity to introduce him to our fiberglass pools, spas, andsundecks, and connect him with one of our incredible dealers to bring his backyard vision to life. Fast forward one year, and Tom now has the dream outdoor space he envisioned.

We sat down with him to hear all about his journey — from inspiration to installation.

Q: What made you decide it was time to install a pool? 

Tom:  My wife and I spent a nice long vacation in Costa Rica and in many locations had our own small cocktail pool to enjoy.  Upon returning home we looked outside and decided we wanted to have that experience at home!

Q: Why did you choose a fiberglass pool over other options?  

Tom:  We did a great deal of research on both concrete and fiberglass pools.  While concrete pools could be customized in its design, it has concerns for us such as periodic maintenance issues.  We decided that fiberglass would be the best way to go, especially if we could find the right design for our needs.  While researching, I looked at several fiberglass brands and found that Barrier Reef had the best products that were built with superior technique and quality.  I talked to local installers, and they were pushing me to brands they were used to installing that had inferior quality.  I also reached out to the regional sales manager for Barrier Reef and we spoke a great deal back and forth.  He answered questions and helped me think about the pool, process, design, etc.  He provided me with a great installer in my area Craft Building Group LLC.

Q: What stood out to you about Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pools when you were doing your research?

Tom:  The quality of Barrier Reef Fiberglass Pools models and designs made this a no-brainer for me. It is so well built (thicker, heavier construction) and the options are fantastic.  They are really built to last.  

Q: Which model/color did you choose and why?

Tom: We went back and forth on many of the wonderful options, but we wanted a smaller pool for less maintenance and heating cost.  We ended up with the Grande 23 in Evening sky.  It is absolutely gorgeous!  It has great seating areas and a wonderful swim lane.  We decided we would also install a Badu Turbo Jet to help us get some exercise in also.

Q: How was your experience with the installation process?

Tom:  Fiberglass pools are an easy install! It arrived and was put in the ground fast.

Q: What was it like working with Craft Building Group?

Tom:  Craft Building Group was so easy to work with and helpful along the way.  Going above and beyond throughout the process. We hit it off with Garrett right away, he was so knowledgeable and willing to design and build a great space.  He was always a calming force in dealing with inspectors, project timelines, changes along the way (like us adding extra patio, or changing things), he was always willing to do what he could to help.  His work is top-notch and he will make sure things are done right.  So happy we got to work with him and his staff!

Q: What was the biggest challenge or concern before installation? Did it turn out the way you hoped?

Tom:  Our biggest issues turned out to be some county regulations that caused a slowdown.  I would also add that the Badu Turbo Jet seemed to be a new item on the market and not normally installed on fiberglass.  There was a bit of back and forth with the company’s engineers that put us a few weeks behind.  But it was well worth the wait.

Q: How has having a pool changed how you use your backyard?

Tom: We did not realize how this project would open-up our backyard to us! We spend so much time in that area of the yard now.  We hang out there every day and have had a few great pool parties.  It has been great to have such a wonderful place to unwind and relax.

Q: What’s your favorite feature about your pool so far?

Tom: I love the color, but also the seating and swim area.  It is well designed! I can float and relax or find a nice place to sit on the steps or benches to have a drink, read, or watch nature.

Q: What would you say to someone who’s on the fence about getting a fiberglass pool?

Tom:  I would say it is well built, so much easier, and usually faster (if you are not in a problematic county or installing a jet feature like me).  

Q: Anything else you would like to add?

Tom:  The pool is amazing!!!
